Enstitute, a national non-profit, is reinventing apprenticeships for 21st century careers. Working to address both the growing cost of higher education as well as the current youth unemployment crisis, Enstitute provides students with 1-2 year paid, full-time, apprenticeships at high growth startups/businesses and corporations around the country as an alternative or supplement to traditional university. Launched in September 2012 in New York City, Enstitute has been featured in The New York Times, Forbes, and CNN.
Piloting a program in 2012 with 11 students in New York City, Enstitute flips the traditional model of university on its head. Students spend Monday-Friday on the job, working in key roles at leading technology, digital media, and advertising companies. They supplement their experience with an online curriculum and weekly community and networking events.
At the completion of the first year of their pilot program, Ensitute saw 70% of their students with preliminary full-time offers for permanent jobs, and an influx of over 700 students and close to 1,000 companies applying to the 2013 program. As they enter the fall of 2013, Enstitute is preparing to expand the program to Dublin, Washington D.C., and St. Louis.
