Max Lugavere: New York City

Security Check: Max is an artist, filmmaker, TV personality, and a gentleman.

What’s your historical Los Angeles and New York connection?
I grew up in the hills of NYC (Murray Hill to be exact) and have lived in LA for the past 10 years, the last 3 of which have been very bicoastal, roughly 6 months in NYC, 6 months in LA.

Describe your experience in LA.
I moved to LA to host a TV show and have since immersed myself in many facets of that amazing city. I love how health conscious it is, and it’s been fun to see NYC play catch up in that regard.

Describe your experience in NYC.
My experience in NYC is always very frenetic. Lately my experience in NYC has brought tremendous growth both in terms of my network and creativity. I think NYC and LA engender the left brain/right brain metaphor pretty well and I definitely need both.

What was the biggest challenge of moving from LA to NYC?
I wish I could teleport. Air travel, though I love Virgin America and it’s the airline that I fly exclusively when going back and forth, has its inconveniences. Sometimes I literally wish I could be in both places at once.

How can NYC and LA best engage with each other?
Sexually.

Favorite LA secret spot
It’s a SECRET! Ok fine, I’ll give you a hint. It’s on Fairfax.

Favorite NYC secret spot
Do you guys know what SECRET means?!? That means I can’t tell! Ok fine I’ll give you a hint. It’s on Great Jones Street.

If you were not in media, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t in media I’d be doing health. Love me some good brain science. I was pre-med before switching to a double major in psychology and film.

What’s on your playlist right now?
Well, I have to pimp my own work first. I put out a musical album in 2010 which the powers that be at Virgin America thought was “pretty damn good” (my words, not theirs) and have since carried my music on board their flights. I’m right in between Mary J. Blige and Michael Buble. Look for it! Secondly, I’ve recently binged on “Breaking Bad” in its entirety which is just out-of-this-world brilliant.
