CodeClub is a voluntary initiative in the United Kingdom aimed at teaching children in Primary (Elementary) School how to code. The story starts 3 years ago, with a mission to inspire children to code. Their first year’s goal was to have 20 clubs running, something they surpassed in their first month with 125 after-school clubs being set up thanks to the time of volunteer programmers and developers.
In 3 years, CodeClub has created a nationwide network surpassing 2000 schools, has started a training programme for teachers backed by Google, and has made their material accessible online to the world. They started with a small ask of inspiring children to learn code and now they can show educators the importance of programming and give tech community a meaningfull way to contribute to the education of future programmers.
