Destiny Cullen: London

Security Check: Destiny Cullen is an Executive Assistant by day and a newfound blogger by night who has been living in London now for 3 years via Brooklyn.

What’s your historical London and New York connection?
My Dad is British and I have always wanted to live abroad but I also just so happened to meet someone here so decided to take the leap.

Describe your experience in London as a New Yorker.
I think life as an expat can be quite difficult. It’s hard to meet people here outside of work in contrast to New York. Also, when I first moved here they didn’t even stock coconut water at major grocery stores so I found certain things like that being behind the trend quite frustrating. However, I think the work culture here is much more relaxed which I can’t complain about.

How can New York and London better engage with each other?
It wouldn’t hurt to crack a smile on the subway/tube and say excuse me every once in awhile. The little things can go a long way!

Favorite NYC secret spot: Can I only name one?! I don’t know why but food comes to mind, particularly sushi, my favorite has to be Jewel Bako in the East Village. It’s intimate/quiet, and I daresay better than Nobu.

Favorite London secret spot: My absolute favorite new spot is going to be The Lockhart and of course it’s American! You must go there for brunch and order the Chicken & Waffle, Shrimp & Grits and the Biscuits & Gravy with a Breakfast Martini!

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? This is a tough one I must say, because I’ve fallen in love with France but my heart still belongs to Brooklyn. When I’m there everything just makes sense.

  • And what are you currently reading? A Clash of Kings (A Game of Thrones)
