Wakefield is one part content, publishing a daily email in two editions (NY and National) and one part an events platform. Their emails serve as a short startup/tech discovery guide, connecting people with interesting companies, products, and jobs. Uncubed, their tech hiring fair, is now in four cities and has become a broader tech conference in New York; it’s more circus than job fair, featuring a Top-Chef-for-art competition, speaker panels, music, and an open bar in addition to most of the fastest growing digital businesses in each city. They got their start as a media business accidentally, shifting models after not finding traction as a software business and incorporating Uncubed after 50 startups got dinged from an older job fair.
